There's a third path between startup founder and employee
Two stories dominate how people talk about ambitious work: climb the corporate ladder, or raise venture capital and chase a unicorn. Both are real. Neither fits most of the operators we know.
The third path — where you build a real business around your real skills, stack income streams over time, and do it with AI as leverage and a community of peers — is underdocumented.
MO exists to make it visible and walkable.
One definition of success doesn't fit
Your full-time job has one. VC-backed startups have one. Independent work does not. Your definition of success might be earning $300K/yr working 30 hrs/week. Someone else's might be a productized service business that hums in the background.
Both are wins.
Work should bend to your life, not the other way around
Caregiving season, parenting season, solopreneur season, full-time season — these all count.
The job is to make sure you have the choice.
This is still hard
The math has changed, but starting a business hasn't gotten easier. Entrepreneurship takes guts, time, and a tolerance for risk. We're not pretending otherwise.
But what's different now: there's meaningfully more demand for what experienced operators offer, AI gives one person the leverage that used to take a team, and the array of things you can ship online — content, services, products, communities, software — has never been wider.
The hill is no easier to climb. It's a better hill.
You don't have to do this alone, and you shouldn't
Going solo isn't totally the goal. We want a future of healthy interdependence. Other operators to refer work to, sell with, lean on, learn from.
